The Components of a Pokémon Card

Here is a breakdown of a custom card that I made my boyfriend that might help you with some of the questions. I’ve included a brief description of what the component means on a true Pokémon card, and then what I did for my custom card in italics.

Stage

This refers to the evolution level of the Pokémon. Feel free to get creative here :)

HP (Hit Points)

e.g., a birthday, an anniversary, etc. (July 11th = hp 711)

Pokémon Type

What type of Pokémon is this? (e.g., Fire, Water, Psychic, Fairy, Dinosaur, Custom/Funny, etc.)

Description of personality or traits you'd like to highlight

This will be referenced when creating abilities, weaknesses, etc.

Ability/Attack Description

Can be funny, powerful, cute... whatever fits!

Effect/Damage Description

Something that can be a result from this Pokémon's attack.

Weakness

Something that can be represented as an icon (such as a bag of chips, a video game controller, etc.)

Stats

This can be a number(s) with special meaning that can represent an ability/attack or effect number.

Rarity Symbol

How would you like to rate the rarity of this card? Please refer to the image for some guidance.

Card Number

How would you like the card to be numbered? Please refer to the image for guidance.

Name and Date

What would you like to put in place of an Illustrator name and Copyright date? (ex. Love, Jimmy 2025)

Colors, themes, or aesthetics you'd like?
