Building information Modeling | Midterm Project
Slipstream
The Installation
The sculpture was created by Richard Wilson in 2011 and is located in London, England at Heathrow Airport Terminal 2: The Queen’s Terminal. This sculpture is 70 meters long (230 ft.) and is mad of aluminum material that swims through the airports structural columns. Richard Wilson was inspired by the velocity and momentum of an airplane and had a goal to create a piece that was “liberating, exhilarating and gravity-defying.” It is the longest permanent sculpture to ever be built in Europe.
Project Overview
I took a Building Information Modeling Class my Junior year of college for my Interior Architecture program. The purpose of this class was to become familiar with the 3D modeling software, Revit. Although this class was not a requirement to graduate, it was a perk to learn the software not only to enhance the quality of your future senior thesis, but to have on your resume for future employment.
This particular project was for our Midterm project, where we had to find a building or a sculpture that we found interesting and replicate it in Revit. For the Midterm, I chose to build Slipstream— a winding sculpture displayed in Heathrow Airport.
